Youth Recovery Home Behavioral Specialist (Overnight Shift 12am-8am)

About the role

Under general supervision, this position supervises the residents of the MIT Health Division’s Youth Recovery Home (YRH), a 24/7 residential facility for youth. The role provides a positive, drug- and alcohol-free environment that promotes healthy transitions to independent living.

This is an overnight shift position (12am–8am).

Responsibilities

• Assess residents’ needs and engage in behavior modification techniques to achieve resident-plan goals.
• Monitor daily living activities to ensure resident safety and compliance with YRH rules.
• Work closely with the YRH Supervisor to develop a behavioral level system that reinforces healthy behaviors and reduces negative behaviors.
• Provide education and activities to residents to promote positive social skills, independent living skills, and healthy peer relationships.
• Offer life coaching around various developmental challenges.
• Ensure appropriate referrals to Licensed Mental Health and Chemical Dependency professionals when needed.
• Collaborate with external agencies such as schools, employers, Muckleshoot Child & Family Services (MCFS), the court system, and treatment providers to assist residents in meeting their goals.
• Participate in team meetings and case management to ensure a comprehensive and collaborative approach to resident care.
• Document services, track resident progress toward goals, and maintain confidentiality of protected health information in compliance with state, federal, and Division policies.
• Perform a wide range of office and field duties as needed, which may include driving.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related behavioral science discipline from an accredited college or university. Two years of youth residential treatment experience required; an additional two years (four years total) may substitute for the degree.
• Training in childhood development, social services, child psychology, conflict resolution, behavior modification, milieu treatment, and chemical dependency.
• Current negative TB test and/or medical documentation stating the employee is not contagious.
• No substance abuse for the past three years and must pass UA testing.
• Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
• Current and valid Washington State Driver’s license and CPR certification.

Skills & Knowledge

• Knowledge of childhood development models, child psychology, milieu treatment, behavioral level systems, behavior modification techniques, and conflict resolution with adolescents.
• Understanding of Native American culture and its relevance to treatment, as well as social service systems.
• Skilled in behavior modification techniques, conflict resolution, oral and written communication, and advocating for residents’ needs.
• Proficient in using computers for documentation, data recording, research, and staff communication.
• Ability to remain calm in a crisis, deliver effective oral presentations, and develop resident plans to identify and track progress toward goals.

Working Conditions

• Frequent walking, standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, and use of hands to operate tools or controls.
• Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 25 pounds.
• Close vision and ability to adjust focus required.
• Moderately quiet work environment.
