About the role

Vertical World has a longstanding legacy of producing the highest quality youth programs in the region and is recognized as an industry leader nationwide. Youth Program (YP) Instructors teach rock climbing classes and camps to youth climbers aged 2–19, delivering instruction across multiple seasons, including school-year programs, day camps, summer camps, and group offerings like birthday parties. Instructors uphold Vertical World’s exceptional legacy in youth climbing while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and care.

This position offers 3–40 hours per week (part-time or full-time) and has the potential to combine with other duties at Vertical World to create a full-time role. Location: Vertical World Seattle.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Vertical World Youth Programs, including classes, camps, and group offerings (e.g., birthday parties).
  • Assist participants and their families with their needs.
  • Maintain consistent and thorough class notes.
  • Implement age-appropriate lesson plans balancing safety, technical skill, and fun.
  • Uphold the highest standard of care and instruction with enthusiasm and positivity.
  • Work collaboratively with all Vertical World staff to achieve program goals.
  • Show initiative to learn, adapt, and improve situations for Vertical World and its climbers.
  • Follow all Vertical World practices and procedures.

Requirements

  • Attend all required staff meetings and 1:1’s with supervisors.
  • Vertical World Top Rope belay certified or ability to pass the test.
  • Current First Aid certification and Safesport certification (can be completed within the first 3 months of employment).
  • Must work at least two programs per week.
  • Seasonal commitment required (school year and/or summer camp).

Pay

$21.30 – $22 hourly.
