Youth Mentor

Summary

Individualized Youth Services (IYS) Youth Mentors work one on one with youth, guiding them through behavioral, social, and emotional challenges. They provide respite services, critical support, and mentorship to help youth thrive in various settings. Mentors follow policies and procedures that align with the agency’s mission and strategic plan.

Functions

• Provide direct services and constant supervision to clients, following each client's individualized service plan.
• Work one-on-one with clients to help resolve personal, social, and emotional issues, fostering positive behavioral and social growth.
• Engage in activities and services alongside clients, ensuring a supportive and interactive environment.
• Accurately document all services provided.
• Safely manage crisis situations to ensure the safety of the client and others.
• Administer and log medication, ensuring proper care and adherence to each client's service plan.
• Aid in meal preparation and clean-up, following safety and hygiene protocols.
• Comply with all transportation and vehicle policies, ensuring the safe transportation of clients.
• Participate in staff meetings, contributing to team discussions and ongoing improvement.
• Take on other responsibilities as needed, adapting to the dynamic needs of the clients and the program.

Qualifications

• High school diploma is required. Additional education is preferred.
• All program specific required training is provided through the program upon hire, including county specific training.
• Prior experience working with youth and/or emotional behavioral disabilities is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance is required.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

• The employee is regularly required to communicate effectively in person, via phone and in writing.
• The employee may occasionally lift or move equipment up to 20 pounds.
• Due to the physical nature of clients with the IYS Program, the position may be required to perform trained crisis prevention techniques, which may require restraining a client ranging in weight.
