Responsibilities

• Supervision & Safety: Ensure a safe and nurturing environment; facilitate engaging activities that promote social, emotional, and physical development for groups of up to 20 members; provide mentorship and guidance; implement educational programs aligned with best practices; supervise groups in various settings; collaborate with parents, teachers, and community organizations; maintain accurate records; respond to emergencies with appropriate first aid.
• Classroom Management and Teaching: Establish classroom rules and behavior expectations; provide basic needs and supervision; adapt teaching methods to children’s interests and learning styles; manage activities, lessons, play, breaks, and meals; track progress and communicate with parents and teachers; maintain a clean and organized classroom.
• Relationships & Mentoring: Serve as a positive role model and mentor; foster self-esteem and personal development; cultivate a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere; collaborate with colleagues to meet program goals and share best practices.

Requirements

• Experience working with students in educational or recreational settings preferred
• Background in after-school programs, sports coaching, theater, or special education highly desirable
• Knowledge of childhood development principles and effective classroom management techniques
• Ability to educate and inspire youth through various activities while fostering a positive learning environment
• Certification in First Aid preferred; willingness to obtain certification if not currently held
• Effective communication skills and ability to build rapport with children and families
• Commitment to promoting inclusivity and understanding diverse backgrounds among youth
• Department of Justice and FBI Background check clearance
• 18 years of age
• NCLB (No Child Left Behind) certification required / 48 transferable units
• Multi-conversational language skills are a plus (Spanish, Vietnamese)
• Experience or coursework in Childhood Development or related fields preferred
