Youth Development Counselor Summary
We are looking for conscientious and caring Part-Time Youth Development Counselors to join our team. This role involves supervising children's activities, ensuring safety and cleanliness, and assisting with meals and housekeeping.
Principle Responsibilities
- Supervises the activities of children residing in the cottage; ensures rules and procedures are followed.
- Assists in organizing, supervising, and participating in recreational and other group activities, including driving clients.
- Instructs children on personal hygiene; supervises and maintains the cleanliness of the cottage.
- Prepares and supervises meals and assists in housekeeping.
- Enters information about resident activities into the Cottage Log; prepares incident reports as required.
Special Qualifications
- Knowledge of adolescent behavior, group leadership, and appropriate disciplinary procedures.
- Ability to gain and maintain the confidence of children and provide a supportive environment.
- Understanding and adherence to laws, rules, and regulations regarding child care and safety.
- Ability to keep records and report incidents effectively.
- Understanding and ability to use appropriate restraint techniques.
Minimum Requirements
- Valid NYS driver’s license.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience in handling groups of children & teens, preferably in a residential setting.
- Fluent English reading, writing, speaking, and computer skills necessary for recording observations and monitoring reports.
- Availability: Thursdays through Saturdays, 11 pm to 9 am.
Compensation
Starting at $18.00/hour, with salary commensurate with experience.
