Youth Development Counselor (Overnight Thursday- Saturday)

Youth Development Counselor Summary

We are looking for conscientious and caring Part-Time Youth Development Counselors to join our team. This role involves supervising children's activities, ensuring safety and cleanliness, and assisting with meals and housekeeping.

Principle Responsibilities

• Supervises the activities of children residing in the cottage; ensures rules and procedures are followed.
• Assists in organizing, supervising, and participating in recreational and other group activities, including driving clients.
• Instructs children on personal hygiene; supervises and maintains the cleanliness of the cottage.
• Prepares and supervises meals and assists in housekeeping.
• Enters information about resident activities into the Cottage Log; prepares incident reports as required.

Special Qualifications

• Knowledge of adolescent behavior, group leadership, and appropriate disciplinary procedures.
• Ability to gain and maintain the confidence of children and provide a supportive environment.
• Understanding and adherence to laws, rules, and regulations regarding child care and safety.
• Ability to keep records and report incidents effectively.
• Understanding and ability to use appropriate restraint techniques.

Minimum Requirements

• Valid NYS driver’s license.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience in handling groups of children & teens, preferably in a residential setting.
• Fluent English reading, writing, speaking, and computer skills necessary for recording observations and monitoring reports.
• Availability: Thursdays through Saturdays, 11 pm to 9 am.

Compensation

Starting at $18.00/hour, with salary commensurate with experience.
