Title: Youth Development Casual positions (continuous posting)
Classification: 0001, Non-Exempt Casual (up to 14 hours per week)
Appointment: Up to 14 hours per week; depending on location and time of year
Pay range: Depending on education, qualifications, experience, and position type:
- Youth Development Casual, $15.25-$23.00 an hour
- Site Coordinator, $15.25-$21.00 an hour
- 4-H Treasurer, $20.00 an hour
- 4-H Food Service Manager, $22-$26 an hour
About the Position
This is a continuous posting used to establish a pool of applicants for potential casual position openings during Spring and Summer 2026 for the Extension Department of Youth Development. Applicants will be selected from this pool on an as-needed basis.
This posting is for roles like Site Coordinator, 4-H Treasurer, and similar roles and assisting current Extension Educators, Professors and the department fulfill its goals and responsibilities. These roles provide flexible, high-impact assistance across key programming, administrative and logistical functions of the department. The primary purpose of these positions is to support program and administrative functions.
Location and Work environment
Positions located across Minnesota, typically based out of county or regional Extension offices. Interest in available locations and roles will be collected in the required intake survey.
Youth Development Casual
Overview/Responsibilities:
This role will be utilized to complete various duties on an as-needed basis. Work may include supporting a county or a regional educator or office, may assist with camp, fair or other related programming or event coordination or related duties as assigned and will typically report to a Program Leader, or other administrator in the department. Pay Range: $15.25-23.00 an hour. Works 0-14 hours per week, varies depending on work available. A specific work schedule will be determined with the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must be at least 18 years old by the start date.
- Basic experience with word processing, email, and internet browsers.
- Proficient in oral and written English communication skills.
- The ability to communicate effectively with youth, parents, adult volunteers, and staff
- Good problem-solving skills and a solid understanding of risk management
- Able to work at varying work locations, often or occasionally in the same work day
- Valid driver’s license and own means of transportation with required liability insurance. Mileage reimbursement provided in accordance with University policy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic understanding of youth development principles and best practices.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to organize work and produce expected work products.
- Ability to adapt to changes (e.g., programming, work priorities).
- Evidence of ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Education in youth development, sociology, education, volunteer systems management, communication, or related fields.
Site Coordinator
Overview/Responsibilities:
- Assist Extension Educator with creating lesson plans
- Assist Extension Educator to prepare materials and implement lessons and educational programs
- Cook up to 4-H rules and regulations under the direction of the Extension Educator
- Model standards for positive conduct, including language, appearance, and behavior
- Promote the 4-H program to potential members, families, and volunteers.
- Drive program supplies to and from program sites.

- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must be at least 18 years old by the start date.
- Basic experience with word processing, email, and internet browsers.
- Proficient in oral and written English communication skills.

4-H Treasurer
Overview/Responsibilities:
- Direct the secure handling of all cash and checks according to stewardship practices, including making timely bank deposits and performing monthly account reconciliations.
- Manage bill payments via check and maintain a rigorous filing system of receipts, canceled checks, and supporting transaction documents to justify every expense.
- Utilize QuickBooks to accurately enter data, track income and expenditures, and manage overall financial records for the organization.
- Prepare and present comprehensive verbal and written financial reports for board meetings; collaborate closely with youth treasurers and adult advisors to ensure transparency.
- Complete required Minnesota sales tax worksheets and review/sign IRS forms provided by the University tax office to maintain non-profit standing.
- Ensure all volunteers follow established financial practices and compile all necessary documentation for the annual county financial review or audit.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must be at least 18 years old by the start date
- Two years post high school or equivalent general accounts transaction experience in paid or volunteer capacity
- Basic experience with word processing, email and internet browsers.
- Proficient in oral and written English communication skills.
- The ability to communicate effectively with youth, parents, adult volunteers and staff
- Good problem-solving skills and a solid understanding of financial management practices
- Valid driver’s license and own means of transportation with required liability insurance or a way to deposit money in person to local banks. Mileage reimbursement is provided in accordance with University policy.

4-H State Fair - Food Service Manager
Overview/Responsibilities:
- Plan and operate the kitchen and dining area in the 4-H Building before and during the Minnesota State Fair. Hours vary throughout the year from 0-14 hours/week (non-fair time).
- This position will be a University of Minnesota Extension employee for the duration of the role, but will work 0 hours for the University near and during the Minnesota State Fair time, instead will be hired as and work fully as a Minnesota State Fair employee during those designated weeks. This role will report to the Director of State and County Fairs Programs.
- Pay Range: $22-$26 an hour. A specific work schedule will be determined with the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current Minnesota food service license (Minnesota Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM)
- Allergen Food Safety Certification
- Must have management experience with food service and cooking for large groups
- Experience working with hot, cold, and hazardous kitchen equipment
- Able to work with and support youth and adults from a diverse range of experiences, cultures and backgrounds.
- Access to reliable internet and ability to work remotely
- Experience using computer software technology
- Skills in verbal and written communication and strong organizational skills
- Must be able to meet Minnesota State Fair hiring requirements and standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Completed degree/certificate from a college/culinary school and/or current food industry experience equivalent to two years of full-time experience
- Experience working with school-aged youth and volunteers
- Previous experience in the 4-H Youth Development program or state fair
