About the role

The Department of Public Safety's mission is to safeguard and preserve the lives and property of the people of North Carolina through preparation, prevention, and protection with integrity and honor. The Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention works to reduce and prevent juvenile delinquency by effectively intervening, educating, and treating youth to strengthen families and increase public safety.

Responsibilities

  • Daily responsibilities include housekeeping, physical and mechanical restraint of juveniles, medication administration, and recreational activities.
  • Maintain a secure environment, routinely monitor and observe juveniles, and ensure compliance with cleanliness and sanitation standards.
  • Provide feedback to the treatment team on juveniles.
  • Complete daily records to document safety violations and security breaches, activity briefings for shift personnel, crisis intervention events, behavioral problems/issues, and youth progress updates.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Management Preferences: Ability to communicate effectively speaking and in writing. Must be physically capable of applying the proper methods and procedures to physically restrain juveniles and defend self after being properly trained by the department.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED, 20 years of age, and 2 years of related experience.

Pay

Salary will be based on relevant qualifications, internal equity, and budgetary considerations pertinent to the advertised position.

Schedule

This is a full-time position requiring shift work and weekend/holiday shifts. A shift premium of 10% is offered for 2nd and 3rd shifts.
