Youth Commissioner

Purpose

The Liberty County Youth Commission (LCYC) aims to develop leadership skills, increase civic engagement, and strengthen communication between youth and community leaders. It seeks to advocate for youth-related legislation, policies, and programs and provide opportunities for volunteering, community service, and hands-on involvement in local government processes.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Participate in regular meetings to discuss youth issues and present recommendations to decision-makers.
• Volunteer for planning, community projects, and advocacy work.
• Represent youth perspectives in policy discussions and contribute to solutions for local youth challenges.
• Engage in community service projects that address identified youth needs.

Requirements

• Submit a completed application, one-page essay, and nomination statement.
• One-page essay: "In your opinion, what is the most important issue facing youth today and how does it affect your generation? Write an original, organized essay that includes an introduction, a body with supportive ideas, and a conclusion with a specific positive action you think will resolve this concern."
• Nomination statement: A typed letter from a teacher, counselor, principal, pastor/religious leader, or community member who has known the applicant for at least one (1) year.
• Parental consent form (signed).
• Must be in the 9th - 11th grade during the 2026 - 2027 academic school year.
• Must attend a school (public, private, or homeschool) within the Liberty County district.
• Must be a Liberty County resident.
• Willingness to attend all meetings of such boards and committees.
• Willingness to participate in Liberty County Board of Commissioners and Youth Commission sponsored service projects, programs, and special events.
