Youth Care Worker - Lead - Shelter Care - Internal Applicants ONLY

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead supervision of youth placed in Shelter Care.
  • Ensure appropriate structure in a therapeutic environment for youth in the agency’s care.
  • Facilitate group educational activities and recreational activities.
  • Follow up individually with youth as needed.
  • Serve as a mentor and positive role model for staff and youth on shift.
  • Complete shift responsibilities with assistance from staff on the assigned shift.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Follow policies of the program and agency.
  • Sign policies in Power DMS and follow agency policies.
  • Lead staff on shift and ensure they follow agency policies.
  • Engage with staff and youth on each shift, check in, and use the whiteboard and fobs.
  • Report critical and Serious Incidents to the Shelter Care Leadership team.
  • Facilitate and document group educational and recreational activities.
  • Provide positive supervision of youth at all times within assigned staffing ratios.
  • Observe, assess, and document youth activity.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Administer and verify medication administration records.
  • Email Communication and Supervision Logs and Census Reports.
  • Oversee shift exchange and ensure accurate information is communicated.
  • Respond to issues and incidents within required timeframes.
  • Complete or review required reports.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of two years of experience with children of a similar age to the youth population.
  • A high school diploma or GED/HSED.
  • Meet all WCS employee requirements including reference, criminal background, and driver’s license checks.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Working knowledge of positive child/youth development.
  • Patience and understanding of difficult life situations.
  • The ability to interact with escalating youth and/or parents in a calm and professional manner.
  • The ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • The ability to respond appropriately in crisis situations.
  • The ability to perform basic computer functions.
  • The ability to multi-task.
  • Sensitivity towards cultural, ethnic, and disability issues.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift 30 pounds.
  • Driving is required.

Work Environment

  • State-Licensed Shelter Care Facility.
  • Most of the work is done throughout the building, in the community, and in some cases, the home of a youth.
  • Local travel as required fulfilling essential functions of the position.
  • Ability to provide coverage as needed.
  • Ability to manage young youths who have experienced a great deal of trauma and express trauma through behaviors.
