Youth Care Advocate

Job Summary

The Youth Care Advocate ensures clients receive professional, safe care in a secure environment. Responsibilities include following policies, maintaining client safety, and contributing to a positive work environment.

Program/Department Responsibilities

• Follow security procedures and monitor clients' daily activities.
• Plan and supervise activities during free time.
• Complete paperwork and documentation, including log entries, incident reports, and meal count sheets.
• Prevent and manage crisis situations using therapeutic intervention skills and physical restraints.
• Attend and participate in required meetings.
• Maintain required certifications and adhere to CARF standards.
• Work as part of a team and follow the program's policies.
• Assist with meal preparation and laundry.
• Provide advocacy and support for assigned clients.
• Report suspected child abuse to the supervisor.
• Assume PIC responsibilities and ensure emergency procedures are followed.
• Complete supply inventories and maintain cleanliness.
• Provide professional telephone service.
• Support other OCY programs as needed.
• Assume PIC responsibilities as needed.
• Complete resident monthly reports.
• Assist with program maintenance and cleaning.
• Inspect and maintain DCF Program equipment.
• Support unannounced visits or inspections by social workers.
• Provide support on a voluntary basis.

Supervision of Personnel

Not applicable.

Fiscal Responsibilities

Adhere to all OCY fiscal procedures, such as Purchase Orders, Petty Cash, Employee Expenses, and Facility/Housekeeping Responsibilities.

Physical Requirements

Ability to assist with restraining residents up to approximately 200 pounds; consistent and effective working with clients with severe emotional and behavioral issues; visual and auditory acuity for program security; ability to perform job duties under various conditions.

Education/Experience

Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in High School education or the equivalent accepted. One year of related experience working with adolescents. Basic computer knowledge is required. Valid Driver’s license, proof of insurance, and yearly completion of DEEC required and OCY training.

Additional Considerations

If on a medically modified workload, you may alternate sitting and standing. Occasions may require the use of your personal vehicle, and reimbursement for mileage will be provided.

To ensure the overall operations of the “Y” and support teamwork, the Youth Care Advocate will accept additional responsibilities as assigned. I understand that my hours of employment are subject to change to meet the business needs of the Old Colony Y.
