Youth and Family Navigator

About the role

The Youth and Family Navigator works with young people and their families to ensure they have access to benefits/entitlements, appropriate education setting, employment opportunities, and long-term services in the community if needed. The objective is to ensure participants and their families receive opportunities to engage in creative and enriching services that are strengths-based, culturally relevant, support participants and their families in achieving their self-identified goals, aid in the process of reducing recidivism, and adhere to the core principles of risk, need, and responsivity.

Responsibilities

  • Develop relationships with community resources that support participant and family needs
  • Meet with caregivers and families to assess needs
  • Escort participants and families to appointments as needed, this will include HRA, DOE, DMV, medical facilities, housing, etc.
  • Organize participant outings and trips
  • Aid in obtaining vital documents for youth and families
  • Connect youth to positive activities in their communities and verify their attendance and participation
  • Obtain school attendance and other education documents
  • Manage curfew phone line
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Requirements

  • Experience working with similar populations and/or families
  • History of navigating systems such as DOE and/or HRA
  • Commitment to engagement through collaboration with participants and their families
  • Ability to effectively handle numerous tasks and work well under pressure
  • Comfort with home visits and in-community visits
  • Positive attitude and excellent problem-solving skills
  • Trained in or committed to training to become competent in a motivational interview and trauma-informed approach as a means of engaging young people
  • Experience developing relationships with schools, community-based organizations, and/or other youth service providers
  • Time flexibility: Appointments and activities will sometimes be outside of a typical 9-5/10-6 schedule

Qualifications

  • Fluency in Spanish preferred

Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles

Pay

$59,404.00 per year

Schedule

This position is full-time Monday – Friday from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM / 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM. Time flexibility is required due to appointments, meetings, and program activities that may occur outside of regular business hours.
