About the Role
Under the supervision of the Young Offender Institutional Services (YOIS) Program Coordinator I, this position will plan and facilitate all individualized rehabilitative counseling services for young offenders.
Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
Responsibilities
- Conduct orientation and assessment for offenders.
- Facilitate individual, group, and family counseling sessions to support rehabilitative and reentry goals.
- Monitor and document offender behavior, group participation, and educational and vocational progress.
- Maintain accurate case management records.
- Complete assessments to identify educational, vocational, behavioral, social, and medical needs.
- Collaborate with institutional staff, intensive supervision officers, and community partners to coordinate reentry plans and referrals.
- Provide release recommendations based on observed and documented behavior and progress throughout incarceration.
- Participate in staff meetings and complete all required trainings and professional development.
- Perform other duties as assigned to provide support to offenders housed at other institutions.
Requirements
A bachelor's degree in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences and professional experience in human services or social services programs.
Alternatively, the following combinations are acceptable:
- An associate's degree in guidance, counseling, or social sciences and 3 years of professional experience in human services or social services programs.
- A high school diploma and 5 years of professional experience in human services or social services programs.
