About the role
Supervises and manages a security shift responsible for the security operations of a level two correctional facility.
Responsibilities
- Schedules, directs, and manages the employment and duty activities of security personnel.
- Supervises, inspects, and ensures proper perimeter and internal security and control measures are enforced.
- Prepares, submits, and monitors reports required by the chain of command and policy.
- Directs and redirects security resources for optimum security and safety.
- Ensures institutional buildings and state property are properly secured.
- Trains, develops, instructs, evaluates, and counsels subordinates to ensure compliance with state laws and agency policies.
- Ensures proper control, issue, and use of weapons, keys, security devices, and agency equipment.
- Inspects all posts where shift employees are deployed.
- Interviews and counsels inmates as necessary to maintain safety and security.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
Requirements
- High school diploma.
- Six (6) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- A degree in criminal justice or a related field may substitute for supervisory experience year-for-year (associate degree and above = 2 years).
- Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of hire.
