Yard Worker

About the role

Under direct supervision, you will perform a variety of yard activities, including operating a forklift to move product and material throughout the yard, while providing customer service to customers.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers in locating and loading product.
• Review materials loaded against invoice or requisition; complete and route paperwork appropriately.
• Move product/material throughout the yard, ensuring correct placement and well-stocked inventory.
• Perform routine cleanup of the yard.
• Understand and observe all safety procedures and practices to prevent injury; attend periodic safety meetings as required. May recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and six months’ experience performing similar tasks; or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
• OSHA Forklift Certification required.
• Ability to operate motorized and non-motorized material handling equipment.
• Knowledge of safety procedures while performing tasks.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Knowledge of company products and inventory available at the work location.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to read and understand invoices and requisitions.

Work Environment

The work is performed primarily in an outdoor yard environment, subject to variations in temperature, weather, equipment noise, and dust.

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 80 pounds on occasion.
• Must be able to physically operate forklift equipment, including climbing up and down into the cab, twisting the torso for 360-degree visibility, and using arms to operate controls.
