Yard Supervisor (Inspections)

About the role

SA Recycling, a recognized industry leader in the metal recycling industry, is seeking a dynamic and motivated Inspector Supervisor. This is a working supervisor role responsible for guiding the daily work activities of yard personnel, inspecting materials received from suppliers, and monitoring truck traffic flow. You will promote a safe working environment, yard organization, inventory handling, and operational goals while backing up the General Manager as needed.

The position requires flexibility to work 40+ hours per week, including Saturdays as needed, and involves outdoor work.

Responsibilities

• Complete weekly safety inspections of the department
• Conduct safety conversations with employees
• Monitor production levels as assigned
• Ensure proper labor coverage for production and maintenance
• Train employees via email, bulletins, shipping documents, work assignments, and production quotas
• Communicate with the workforce in morning tailgate and safety meetings (public speaking)
• Provide client services in person or over the phone to purchase new metal materials daily
• Work with employees and clients to resolve conflicts and negotiations professionally
• Clean up work area at the end of shift and maintain neat, orderly workspaces
• Ensure regular attendance and punctuality
• Organize materials for effective use of space
• Dispose of waste materials appropriately
• Inspect materials to ensure proper purchasing and placement for processing
• Perform all other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Must pass a medical, physical, and drug test
• Must pass a background check and credit check
• Preferred: High school diploma or GED
• Prior scrap metal experience preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively, follow written/oral directions, and use basic math skills
• Understanding of the metal market to negotiate pricing, delivery, and production demands
• Strong interpersonal skills to gain support from workforce and clientele
