Yard Supervisor

Transdev in Boston, MA is seeking a Yard Supervisor to oversee operations at the Washington, Freeport, and Readville yards. This role ensures quality transportation service is efficiently delivered to customers through both field and office assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure "World Class Service" is provided to customers, offering hands-on assistance and information.
  • Guarantee schedule compliance and assist in timely yard departures to improve on-time performance.
  • Make spontaneous decisions regarding bus assignments in the yard.
  • Monitor and review pre-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance.
  • Dispatch replacement buses/drivers for vehicles involved in accidents or incidents, as well as for special services.
  • Assign manifests and document assignments manually and in the specified computer system.
  • Assist DriveCam Manager and Supervisors by coaching drivers in response to video-recorded unsafe driving events.
  • Supervise and instruct drivers regarding safety, service, and scheduling.
  • Ensure all routes are covered using appropriate vehicles, personnel, equipment, and information.
  • Optimize the use of company operating systems for monitoring, dispatching, and improving on-street service.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with State and Federal regulations, Company policy, contractual obligations, and Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Maintain a safe environment for service operations.
  • Investigate accidents, unusual occurrences, and complaints to file appropriate reports and provide future direction.
  • Generate accurate operational records for reporting and analysis, developing reports on a weekly, monthly, and as-needed basis.
  • Ensure employees' fitness for duty.
  • Reduce the use of overtime.
  • Oversee the safety of the yard and Transdev Services property.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance personnel to ensure efficient bus allocation to meet service requirements.
  • Perform day-to-day dispatch services from the yard and various field locations, monitoring a two-way radio and responding to problems and emergencies.
  • Collaborate with fellow supervisors, dispatchers, Boston Public Schools Department of Transportation, and all Transdev personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant General/Operations Manager.
  • Directly supervise drivers, including planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, such as a G.E.D.
  • College coursework preferred.
  • Two (2) years of passenger transit-related experience and/or supervisory experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write simple correspondence and reports.
  • Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and in small group settings.
  • Detail-oriented, well-organized, and possess effective time management skills.
  • Basic computer skills; experience with Word, Excel, internet, email, and/or database software preferred.
  • Ability to read a map and knowledge of the service area.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and interact professionally with internal and external customers at all levels.
  • Demonstrated poise, tact, diplomacy, good judgment, and discretion.
  • Proven customer service and interpersonal skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt and remain flexible in a fast-paced environment, including adapting to changing situations and listening to feedback.
  • Ability to use a multi-line phone system and handle multiple tasks concurrently.

Physical Requirements

  • Work in environments exposed to varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions, both outside and inside, sometimes alone and in remote locations.
  • Occasionally stand, stoop, squat, walk for extended periods, bend, kneel, or crouch to access files or equipment stored at ground level.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle small parts and push buttons; climb ladders and stairs using hands, arms, legs, and feet.
  • Sit or stand for extended periods (up to 6-8 hours per day); frequently walk long distances on potentially sloped, slippery, or uneven surfaces.
  • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, night vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing job duties; tolerate exposure to dust, vehicle fumes, and noise.
  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts; occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Moderate noise level in the work environment.

Pay

$28.79 per hour (Union Collective Bargaining Agreement Payscale).
