About the role

The Yard Supervisor oversees a large team at a high-volume branch, manages lot inventory and infrastructure, prepares and preserves vehicles, ensures the lot is ready for auctions, and maintains vehicle and parts inventory.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a safe work environment by enforcing safety policies, ensuring staff compliance with training initiatives, and meeting deadlines.
  • Foster a safety-focused work environment for the team.
  • Maintain the facility in a presentable condition for daily operations.
  • Monitor and train staff to ensure timely and efficient execution of core duties, meeting SLA agreements and client expectations.
  • Educate staff and promote vehicle enhancements (e.g., shrink wrapping, steam cleaning, detailing) to increase vehicle value and drive profitability.
  • Conduct daily yard and fence walks to monitor lot inventory and infrastructure, preventing loss (e.g., holes in fences, missing inventory, misplaced vehicles).
  • Respond to customer inquiries promptly, including missing personal belongings, vehicle damage/condition verification, and lot location of vehicles, while maintaining a customer-centric focus.
  • Recommend or perform personnel actions such as salary increases, performance reviews, hiring, and disciplinary measures.
  • Apply appropriate security, maintenance, and safety procedures to protect company and customer assets.
  • Use personal protective equipment (e.g., safety gloves, safety glasses) as required.
  • Recognize and respond to potentially unsafe situations to avoid accidents.
  • Follow industry-specific regulations for handling hazardous materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, with responsibilities subject to change based on business needs.

Qualifications

  • Basic automotive repair and general mechanical knowledge of vehicles.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience.
  • Proficiency with handheld PDA.
  • Basic operation of a forklift or loader.
  • Ability to interact effectively and supportively with customers and team members.
  • Capable of stooping, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods.
  • Must remain alert to hazards associated with heavy equipment and vehicles in the work area.
  • Strong supervisory experience.
  • Positive attitude and professional appearance.
  • Effective communication with team and customers.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors year-round, climb on and off large equipment and trucks.

Travel

10% travel required.
