About the Role
The Yard Manager is responsible for the day-to-day organization, maintenance, inspection, and control of all equipment, rigging gear, tools, and yard assets located at the Baytown branch. This position ensures equipment is properly maintained, inspected, organized, and ready to support field operations while maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient yard environment. The Yard Manager works closely with Operations, Dispatch, Mechanics, Riggers, and Branch Leadership to ensure equipment availability, inventory accuracy, DOT compliance where applicable, and operational readiness.
Responsibilities
- Rigging Yard Operations
- Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient equipment yard.
- Ensure all equipment is properly stored, secured, and staged for upcoming jobs.
- Coordinate loading and unloading of cranes, trucks, trailers, rigging equipment, and support equipment.
- Monitor overall yard organization to maximize efficiency and safety.
- Maintain designated storage areas for all equipment and materials.
- Rigging Equipment Management
- Inspect rigging equipment for damage, wear, and certification requirements.
- Remove damaged or out-of-service equipment from inventory immediately.
- Coordinate repairs, recertification, or replacement of rigging equipment.
- Maintain inspection records and certification documentation.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, ASME, and company inspection requirements.
- Equipment Management
- Maintain inventory of company-owned tools, spreader bars, lifting devices, shackles, slings, chains, and other lifting accessories.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules with the maintenance department.
- Ensure equipment is clean, operational, and job-ready.
- Assist with equipment transfers between branches when required.
- Track equipment movement and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Inventory Control
- Conduct routine inventory audits.
- Maintain accurate inventory of rigging gear, tools, consumables, and yard equipment.
- Notify management when replacement equipment or supplies are needed.
- Maintain inventory control systems and documentation.
- Safety & Compliance
- Ensure the yard remains compliant with OSHA standards and company safety policies.
- Conduct routine safety inspections of the yard.
- Maintain housekeeping standards throughout the yard.
- Ensure equipment is tagged appropriately and removed from service when necessary.
- Participate in safety meetings and inspections.
- Fleet & Equipment Support
- Assist with equipment inspections prior to mobilization.
- Coordinate fueling, washing, and basic servicing of company equipment as needed.
- Support mechanics with equipment staging and movement.
- Assist with vendor deliveries and equipment pickups.
- Communication
- Coordinate daily with Dispatch regarding equipment availability.
- Communicate equipment repair needs promptly.
- Work closely with Operations to prioritize equipment readiness.
- Maintain positive working relationships across all departments.
- Supervisory Responsibilities
- May provide work direction to Yard Personnel and temporary employees.
- Does not directly supervise employees unless assigned by Branch Management.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in equipment yard operations, rigging, crane operations, heavy equipment, or industrial construction.
- Experience operating forklifts and material handling equipment preferred.
- Experience maintaining equipment inventories.
- Basic computer skills required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Crane & Rigging Certification preferred.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification.
- Forklift Certification.
- Knowledge of crane and rigging equipment.
- Experience using inventory management software.
- Valid Class A or B CDL preferred.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of rigging equipment and lifting accessories.
- Understanding of inspection requirements and equipment certifications.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands
- Frequently lift and move up to 75 pounds.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work outdoors for extended periods.
- Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.
- Work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely move throughout an active industrial yard.
Work Environment
This position works primarily outdoors in an industrial equipment yard. The employee will regularly be exposed to changing weather conditions, moving equipment, heavy machinery, and construction environments. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.
Travel
- Minimal travel.
- Occasional travel to nearby branch locations for equipment transfers or training.
