About the role
The Yard Manager oversees the daily operations of the yard area, including production coordination, inventory management, material handling, equipment operation and utilization, and workforce supervision.
Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise all yard activities.
- Ensure daily production and delivery schedules are achieved.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment, following all OSHA, company, and industry guidelines.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of finished products, raw materials, and supplies.
- Optimize yard layout and storage practices to improve efficiency and product access.
- Supervise, train, and coach yard personnel while establishing performance expectations and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain 100% accuracy on all loaded products.
- Oversee the operations and maintenance of forklifts, cranes, loaders, trailers, and other yard equipment, including ensuring all required inspections and preventative maintenance is completed when scheduled.
- Continuously improve knowledge and skills through training and/or education to stay current on industry trends/best practices.
Qualifications
- High diploma or equivalent, Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Operations Management, or related field, preferred.
- Minimum five years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, precast concrete, construction materials, or heavy industrial operations.
- Three or more years’ supervisory or management experience.
- Previous experience as an equipment operator required.
- Proven ability to lead and maintain effective organization and workflow optimization efforts in a large-scale manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Able to work in varying environments including but not limited to extensive walking, lifting, and standing.
- Self-motivated to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and time-management skills, with demonstrated proficiency in ERP systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and other operational and business management software.
