About the role
We are looking for a motivated Night Yard Jockey to join our team in Austin.
Responsibilities
- Follow company policy and procedures while driving commercial vehicles.
- Prepare and maintain a report of daily activities.
- Ensure all trucks comply with DOT standards and proper documentation.
- Ensure all repairs procedures comply with OSHA regulations.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with all personnel and dispatchers.
- Ensure preventive maintenance of all vehicles is completed in a timely manner and report defective equipment.
- Work on Whip Around to capture all repair information, including the three C’s (complaint, cause, and correction).
- Report all gas usage to Fleet Manager and Transportation Manager.
- Perform all yard jockey duties, including mileage and hour reports.
- Move trucks into dock doors.
- Conduct routine yard checks.
- Assist with loading trucks on a nightly basis.
- Review truck documents, registration, DOT annually, insurance card, accident procedures, and inspections.
Requirements
- Must be 21+ years old.
- Valid driver’s license.
- 1 year of box truck driving experience (16 to 26 foot).
- Available to work weekends.
- Understanding of managerial, administrative, and technical practices for a successful vehicle maintenance program.
Skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
Work Conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Manual dexterity, overall coordination, and good balance required.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move rapidly for the entire work shift.
- Ability to bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.
- Ability to perform repetitious arm movements above and below shoulder level.
- Ability to use and operate related work aides, including manual or motor-driven pallet jacks and hand trucks.
- Must be alert and behave responsibly around forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
- Mental alertness necessary to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities.
- Ability to learn proper selection procedures, shipping and receiving techniques, computerized inventory procedures, and safe operating techniques of equipment.
- Ability to adapt to a multi-temperature work environment (Refrigeration Temperature 34°F–70°F).
Schedule
- Full time, overnight shift: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Saturdays off.
