Entry-level position within the Humanities Division, Music Department. Supervised by Dr. Kelly Taylor. Federal Work-Study eligible. Average 11–15 hours per week during Fall and Spring terms.
Responsibilities
- Set up rehearsal spaces: arrange chairs, music stands, and staging according to specific ensemble seating charts.
- Deploy large-scale equipment: position heavy percussion instruments, amplifiers, conductor podiums, and other equipment prior to rehearsals.
- Conduct post-rehearsal resets: clear rehearsal spaces and return instruments, stands, and equipment to designated storage areas.
- Manage uniform inventory: track, organize, and assign marching uniforms, secondary uniforms, shoes, hats, and clovers to students.
- Coordinate uniform distribution: assist with fittings, distribution, collection, and documentation of apparel during the Marching Band season.
- Inspect gear and attire: check returned instruments, equipment, and uniforms for damage, stains, missing components, or other issues.
- Coordinate uniform cleaning: prepare uniforms for dry cleaning and organize and properly store uniforms upon their return.
- Maintain equipment rooms: keep instrument storage areas, uniform closets, and equipment cages clean, secure, and organized.
- Report maintenance needs: document damaged equipment and uniform repair needs and report them to the Director of Bands.
Qualifications
- Enrolled in a music course (preferred major).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Attention to detail and strong active listening abilities.
- Written and verbal communication skills.
- Customer-focused with a willingness to learn new things.
Work Conditions & Physical Demands
Hours vary depending on workload. Position involves:
- Reaching, handling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying equipment and instruments.
