About the role

Consultants provide one-on-one or group consulting in a supportive environment to students in all disciplines, empowering them to become more competent academic and professional writers. While teaching in a one-on-one setting is integral, there is no requirement for teaching beyond the duties of the Writing Center.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one or group writing consultation to students across all disciplines
  • Engage and empower students to improve their academic and professional writing skills
  • Explain writing concepts and study strategies effectively
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university (English degrees preferred)
  • Demonstrated writing consultation experience in a tutorial or instructional setting
  • Experience working with community college students

Physical Demands

The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment with adequate lighting, heating, and ventilation. The role involves:

  • Sitting comfortably while using a computer mouse and keyboard
  • Repetitive hand/finger motions for typing
  • Walking, standing, bending, stooping, and carrying items
  • Travel to and attendance at meetings or conferences away from the worksite

Pay

$20.91/hour (set rate for part-time non-bargaining position).

Schedule

Hours vary depending on student demand and usage of the writing center.
