About the role
Consultants are responsible for providing one-on-one or group consulting in a supportive environment to students in all disciplines, in order to engage and empower them to become more competent academic and professional writers. Teaching in a one-on-one setting is integral to the position, although there is no requirement for teaching beyond the duties of the Writing Center. Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one or group writing consultation to students across all disciplines
- Engage and empower students to improve their academic and professional writing skills
- Explain writing concepts and study strategies effectively
- Foster an encouraging and supportive learning environment
Requirements
- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university (English degrees preferred)
- Demonstrated writing consultation experience in a tutorial or instructional setting
- Experience working with community college students

Physical Demands / Working Conditions
The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment with adequate lighting, heating, and ventilation. The employee may sit comfortably to perform duties involving computer use, including repetitive motions with hands and fingers. The role may also require walking, standing, bending, stooping, and carrying items. Travel to and attendance at meetings or conferences away from the worksite may be necessary.
Pay
$20.91 per hour
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–7:00 PM; Saturday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
