Season runs Winter: November – February.

Responsibilities

Head Coach

• Assist in maintaining high academic standards for all student‑athletes.
• Assist the athletic director and principal in hiring and/or retaining assistant coaches.
• Direct, supervise, and regularly evaluate the performance of all assistant coaches of the sport.
• Work cooperatively with the athletic director to assure proper insurance coverage for all athletes.
• Collaborate with other head athletic coaches to operate a well‑balanced athletic program.
• Foster appreciation of athletic values, a desire to win, good sportsmanship, and pride in self, team, school, and community among participants and spectators.
• Direct the training, conditioning, and performance of the varsity team and lead, supervise, and assist assistant coaches with their assigned teams.
• Act as a positive influence on the behavior of athletic staff and teams.
• Be present and personally direct the team at all varsity contests and attend as many junior varsity and freshman contests as possible; supervise athletes at invitational meets or post‑season competition.
• Advise the athletic director on schedule preparation for the sport.
• Advise the athletic director in the selection and performance evaluations of officials.
• Recommend the type and amount of equipment and supplies needed to conduct the sports program.
• Provide for inventory and care of equipment.
• Advise the athletic director of the condition of athletic facilities and needs for their preparation and maintenance.
• Assist the athletic director to ensure that lists of all players eligible for athletic contests are prepared and maintained under VHSL rules.
• Recommend removal of athletes from the team(s) when training or eligibility regulations have not been met.
• Ensure all athletes have undergone and passed medical examinations before the regular practice season begins.
• Organize a system for encouraging student try‑outs and develop/recruit equipment managers, score keepers, statisticians, ball runners, etc., for all teams.
• Collect and keep on file records, statistics, news items, and photographs for the athletic teams under supervision.
• Recommend students who qualify for a varsity letter or junior varsity/freshman certificate.
• Recommend prospective coaches to the athletic director upon request.
• Observe sub‑varsity practices and games.
• Perform other duties related to the position of head athletic coach as requested by the high school principal and/or athletic director.

Assistant Coach

• Work cooperatively with the head athletic coach to operate a well‑structured program.
• Collaborate with the athletic department.
• Attend all staff meetings prescribed by the head athletic coach during the season.
• Carry out specific duties designated by the head athletic coach.
• Recommend equipment and supplies needed for program implementation.
• Recommend suggested disciplinary actions regarding players violating training rules and procedures.
• Foster among athletes a desire to win, good sportsmanship, personal pride, and pride for their school and community.
• Perform other duties related to the position of assistant athletic coach as requested by the high school principal and/or athletic director.

Qualifications

• Coaching experience or participation in the sport at the high school or college level.
• Completion of CPR and First Aid training, or enrollment in a current CPR and First Aid course.
• Prefer experience as a teacher or classified employee in Loudoun County Public Schools.
• Prefer a Virginia Teaching License candidate or a full‑time classified employee for Loudoun County Public Schools.
