About the Role
Head wrestling coaching position for the winter season (November - February) at a Riverside high school.
Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining high academic standards for all student athletes.
- Assist the athletic director and principal in the hiring and/or retention of assistant coaches.
- Direct, supervise, and regularly evaluate the performance of all assistant coaches.
- Work cooperatively with the athletic director to ensure proper insurance coverage for all athletes.
- Collaborate with other head athletic coaches to operate a well-balanced athletic program.
- Foster appreciation for athletics, sportsmanship, and pride in self, team, school, and community among participants and spectators.
- Direct the training, conditioning, and performance of the varsity team and supervise assistant coaches for junior varsity and freshman teams.
- Act as a positive influence on the behavior of athletic staff and team members.
- Personally direct the team at all varsity contests and attend as many junior varsity and freshman contests as possible, including supervision at invitational meets or postseason competition.
- Advise the athletic director on schedule preparation, official selection, and equipment/supplies needed for the sports program.
- Provide for inventory and care of equipment and advise on athletic facility conditions and maintenance needs.
- Ensure eligibility lists for athletic contests are prepared and maintained under VHSL rules.
- Recommend removal of athletes from the team when training or eligibility regulations are not met.
- Ensure all athletes have passed medical examinations before the regular practice season begins.
- Organize tryouts and recruit support staff (equipment managers, scorekeepers, statisticians, etc.).
- Maintain records, statistics, news items, and photographs for athletic teams.
- Recommend students for varsity letters or junior varsity/freshman certificates.
- Recommend prospective coaches to the athletic director upon request.
- Observe sub-varsity practices and games.
- Perform other duties related to the position as requested by the principal or athletic director.
Requirements
- Coaching experience or participation in wrestling at the high school or college level.
- Completion of CPR and First Aid training or enrollment in a current course.
- Preferred: Experience as a teacher or classified employee in Loudoun County Public Schools.
- Preferred: Virginia Teaching License candidate or full-time classified employee in Loudoun County Public Schools.
Salary follows the Loudoun County Public Schools scale: https://www.lcps.org/compensation. Position is non-union.
