WRAIR Integrative Systems Biology for Military Health Internship/Fellowship

About the role

The Department of Defense (DoD) is offering internships or fellowships at the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command - Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (USAMRDC WRAIR). The research opportunity is within the Center for Military Psychiatry and Neuroscience (CMPN), Integrated Systems Biology Branch.

Responsibilities

• Apply integrative biology approaches to understanding the etiology of, and finding solutions for, military-relevant health issues.
• Conduct whole genome sequencing.
• Conduct metabolomic analysis.
• Gain experience in Ingenuity Pathway Analysis.
• Conduct analysis of omics data using commercial and publicly available analysis tools for proteomic, genomic and metabolomic.
• Learn microbiome analysis using sequencing.
• Understand new animal models for austere environments.

Requirements

The qualified candidate will have a Bachelors, Masters or Doctoral degree in Bioinformatics, Neuroscience, Genetics or other eligible discipline. Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date.

• Highly competitive applicants will have education and/or experience in one or more of the following:
• Animal models
• Biomarkers
• RNA and DNA isolation
• Data analysis and mining for Military relevant health

Stipends are typically based on a participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location.

Schedule

Appointments are initially for one year with the option to extend the appointment for up to four additional years, contingent upon project needs and funding availability.

About ORISE

This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and DoD. Participants do not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
