Workface Planning Manager - Primoris Energy Services
Job Overview
The Manager, Workface Planning is responsible for leading and overseeing all Workface Planning (WFP) and Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) activities across assigned projects or business units.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Lead and manage Workface Planning teams across one or multiple projects.
Establish and maintain Workface Planning standards, procedures, processes, and best practices.
Provide oversight for the development, review, approval, tracking, and execution of Construction Work Packages, Installation Work Packages, and other construction planning deliverables.
Serve as the primary Workface Planning liaison with Construction Managers, Project Directors, Project Controls Managers, and executive leadership.
Mentor, train, and develop Workface Planners and planning personnel to improve overall organizational capability.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on package quality, readiness, productivity, and field execution effectiveness.
Work Packaging & Construction Readiness
Oversee the development and implementation of Construction Work Packages (CWPs), Work Packages (WPs), and Installation Work Packages (IWPs).
Ensure construction scope is effectively broken down into executable work packages aligned with project sequencing and execution strategies.
Review package development methodologies for consistency with AWP and Workface Planning principles.
Establish package readiness criteria and ensure compliance before release to field execution teams.
Monitor package quality, completeness, and readiness across all project disciplines.
Ensure work packages include all required engineering, procurement, quality, safety, material, and execution documentation.
Planning & Execution Integration
Partner with Construction Management and Project Controls to align work packaging strategies with project schedules and critical-path activities.
Oversee development and maintenance of: Six-Week Lookahead Plans, Three-Week Lookahead Plans, Weekly Work Plans, Readiness Reviews, Constraint Management Programs.
Monitor package status and readiness metrics to ensure crews receive executable work.
Support project schedule recovery efforts through strategic resequencing, work packaging improvements, and obstruction removal initiatives.
Drive alignment between engineering deliverables, procurement milestones, material availability, and field execution requirements.
Constraint and Obstruction Management
Establish processes for identifying, tracking, prioritizing, and resolving construction constraints and obstructions.
Lead regular readiness and constraint review meetings with stakeholders.
Develop escalation processes for unresolved issues impacting construction execution.
Track and report aging constraints, readiness trends, and package release performance.
Ensure effective communication and ownership of action items across project teams.
Cross-Functional Coordination
Coordinate closely with: Construction Management, Project Controls, Field Engineering, Technical Services, Procurement, Material Management, Document Control, Quality, Safety, Commissioning Teams.
Verify alignment between package planning efforts and overall project execution strategies.
Facilitate collaboration between office and field organizations to improve project performance.
Reporting & Performance Management
Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) related to: Package readiness, Constraint removal, Package release performance, Field productivity, Labor efficiency, Schedule adherence, Workface readiness.
Prepare executive-level reports, dashboards, and performance summaries.
Analyze trends and performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
Support project leadership with forecasting, planning analysis, and execution improvement recommendations.
Governance & Compliance
Ensure Workface Planning activities comply with company standards, client requirements, project procedures, and industry best practices.
Conduct audits of package development, readiness reviews, document control processes, and package closeout activities.
Ensure proper record retention and documentation of planning activities.
Promote compliance with safety, quality, schedule, and client expectations throughout the planning process.
Leadership Authority
The Manager, Workface Planning has authority to establish and enforce Workface Planning standards and readiness requirements.
Determine package readiness status and recommend withholding package release when critical requirements are unmet.
Escalate unresolved constraints and readiness issues impacting project execution.
Direct Workface Planning resources and priorities across assigned projects.
Recommend process improvements, staffing adjustments, and execution strategies to improve field performance.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 10–15 years of experience in industrial construction, EPC, power generation, oil and gas, petrochemical, data center, infrastructure, or heavy industrial projects.
Minimum 5 years of experience in Workface Planning, Advanced Work Packaging, Construction Planning, Project Controls, Construction Management, Field Engineering, or related leadership roles.
Demonstrated experience leading planning teams and managing construction readiness programs on large-scale projects.
Strong understanding of: Workface Planning (WFP), Advanced Work Packaging (AWP), Construction Work Packages (CWPs), Installation Work Packages (IWPs), Construction execution planning, Constraint management, Schedule integration, Field productivity improvement.
Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate across multiple project functions.
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Industrial Technology, Business, or related discipline preferred; equivalent industry experience may be considered.
Strong knowledge of industrial construction sequencing and execution strategies.
Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification or formal training in Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) or Workface Planning methodologies.
Experience managing Workface Planning programs on projects exceeding $100 million.
Experience supporting: Combined-cycle power generation facilities, Data centers, LNG facilities, Petrochemical facilities, Refining projects, Renewable energy projects, Large industrial infrastructure projects.
Experience implementing enterprise-wide planning and execution improvement initiatives.
Experience managing multiple planners across concurrent projects.
Familiarity with Primoris systems, processes, and project execution methodologies.
Technical Skills
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including: Pivot tables, Dashboards, Data analysis, Reporting tools.
Microsoft Office Suite, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam Revu, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Procore.
SAP and ERP systems, Material management systems, Project controls and progress measurement software, Workface Planning and Advanced Work Packaging platforms.
