Workers' Compensation Judge

Description of Work

Hold Hearings: Manage a caseload of hundreds of petitions; conduct impartial, orderly administrative hearings both in-person and virtually; ensure promptness, efficiency, and the protection of due process rights for all parties
Analyze Evidence and Testimony: Extensively review hearing testimony, evidence of record, written arguments of attorneys, and applicable case law
Conduct Legal Research: Use legal research databases and other primary and secondary sources to determine the validity of legal positions
Issue Decisions: Write final decisions based on your analysis and application of evidence, testimony, applicable laws, and legal precedent
Oversee Clerical Staff: Provide direction to secretaries and other staff members who help schedule and reschedule hearings, communicate with parties, and process case documents
Support Collaborative Resolutions: Advise unrepresented litigants about their rights and all required procedures, review settlement agreements, and utilize alternative dispute resolution

Work Schedule and Additional Information

Full-time employment
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. May vary based on operational needs.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, after successful completion of the required training period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Reading. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Salary

In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Five years of Workers' Compensation practice before administrative agencies, or equivalent experience.
Special Requirements: You must be an attorney in good standing before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
