Responsibilities
- Client Communication Intake: Communicate politely and professionally with clients, potential clients, and other parties via phone and correspondence; conduct client intake; send follow-up letters and emails to prospective clients.
- Legal Document Drafting Filing: Prepare and draft motions, affidavits, applications for compensation, and required filings with the Bureau of Workers' Compensation and the Industrial Commission under attorney supervision.
- File Document Management: Organize, index, collect, proofread, and file documents received from clients and third parties while maintaining accurate, duplication-free claim files.
- Hearing Preparation: Assist the attorney in preparing for hearings by gathering and organizing documents, digesting key issues and facts, and coordinating with medical providers and clients regarding records and reports.
- Deadline Database Tracking: Monitor all discovery and information-gathering deadlines and maintain up-to-date records in the client database.
- Settlement Administrative Support: Work with the Settlement Coordinator to obtain cost printouts and verify Medicaid/Medicare liens; perform general administrative duties, including filing, scanning, photocopying, and handling continuance requests.
Qualifications
- Comfortable working on a computer (preferably a Mac), using the Internet, and must be familiar with Microsoft Word
- A Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree is preferred but not required
- Experience working with the Solaris Portal to get Medicaid-paid claims information from Ohio’s Tort Recovery Unit is a plus, but we can teach you.
- 3 years experience in a claimant’s workers’ compensation setting or at a Third Party Administrator is required, as is knowledge of BWC/MCO forms and procedures.
- Having an open mind and willingness to learn “our way” is crucial for this role.
