Position Summary

The Work Comp Specialist works with patients, clinical teams, work comp companies, and the call center to coordinate care at OrthoNebraska. They act as the main liaison between patients and OrthoNebraska.

Position Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required.
  • Licensure: N/A
  • Certification: N/A
  • Experience: 1+ year of Worker's compensation experience preferred.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for obtaining referral or authorization for treatment of Workers' Compensation patients.
  • Responsible for obtaining correct workers compensation company, claim number, billing address, and adjuster and nurse case manager contact information.
  • Responsible for obtaining all prior records and X-ray discs of patients before first appointment, when applicable.
  • Responsible for obtaining proper information and records for MVA or Third-Party liabilities.
  • Captures and coordinates with clinical staff. Ensures interpretive services are set up for patients, if needed.
  • Aids adjusters, case managers, and employers with request for information in a timely manner.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality by understanding HIPAA regulations.
  • Completes items identified in work queues in a timely manner.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Attends and participates in department meetings.
  • Follows established guidelines as stated in the policies and procedures of Patient Financial Services at OrthoNebraska.
  • Informs Assistant Manager/Manager of patient complaints and/or issues in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates Always TRUE and the OrthoNebraska Way.

Physical Requirements

This position is classified as Sedentary Work in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally) up to (33% of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (33%-66% of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
