About the role
rag & bone is a brand committed to uncompromising ideals, blending classic British tailoring with American workwear and New York authenticity. This role is pivotal in merging rag & bone’s DNA with innovative product design.
Responsibilities
- Creative Execution: Coordinate and unify the creative direction for the Cut & Sew category, ensuring all pieces align with the rag & bone aesthetic.
- Fabric & Trim Development: Source and develop premium jersey, fleece, and rib fabrics. Lead the approval of lab dips, fabric hand-feel, and yarn submits.
- Print & Graphic Collaboration: Partner closely with the Print Department to develop seasonal patterns, screen prints, and embroideries that elevate the collection.
- Technical Design: Create detailed design cards for first prototypes, including precise measurements, construction call-outs, and hardware specifications.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with Merchandising and Production to ensure designs meet business objectives without compromising creative integrity.
- Fittings & Refinement: Lead fit sessions with Technical Design to ensure the rag & bone signature silhouette is maintained across all knit categories.
- Market Research: Conduct ongoing research into global trends, vintage references, and innovative raw materials to keep the brand at the forefront of the industry.
- Travel: Opportunity for overseas travel for trade exhibitions, factory visits, and design inspiration.
Requirements
- Experience: 4–6 years of professional design experience, specifically within high-end cut & sew or contemporary knitwear.
- Aesthetic Alignment: A high taste level with a deep understanding of the rag & bone brand identity.
- Technical Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of garment construction, textile weight, and specialized knit finishes.
- Artistic Skill: Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for creating technical flats and print layouts.
- Print & Color Savvy: Demonstrated ability to research and apply color theory and print trends to a cohesive collection.
- Leadership: Proven ability to work independently, manage tight deadlines, and mentor junior design team members.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills; ability to present concepts clearly to senior leadership.
