Data Governance & Metadata Scientist
The Data Governance & Metadata Scientist supports mission-critical objectives under the referenced work order by developing, implementing, and maintaining data governance frameworks ensuring metadata consistency, lineage tracking, and interoperability between Data Lake, ESRI Kubernetes environments, and external data sources. This role enforces compliance with DoD metadata policies and NSG tradecraft standards for geospatial datasets.
Job Description
- Implement metadata governance frameworks for structured and unstructured data in cloud-based environments.
- Track data lineage and ensure metadata synchronization across Data Catalog, ESRI Kubernetes, and enterprise metadata repositories.
- Utilize OpenLineage, Apache Atlas, or similar tools for metadata and data lineage management.
- Enforce compliance with DoD metadata policies and NSG tradecraft standards for geospatial datasets.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Information Management, GIS, or a related field; or
- A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in data governance, metadata management, or geospatial data integration.
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Implementing metadata governance frameworks for structured and unstructured data in cloud-based environments.
- Tracking data lineage and ensuring metadata synchronization across platforms.
- Utilizing OpenLineage, Apache Atlas, or similar tools for metadata and data lineage management.
- Enforcing compliance with DoD metadata policies and NSG tradecraft standards for geospatial datasets.
- Working with Databricks Unity Catalog and ESRI metadata APIs.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Expertise in metadata management, data lineage tracking, and schema alignment.
- Working knowledge of Unity Catalog, OpenLineage, Apache Atlas, and Databricks.
- Proficiency in geospatial data standards, data cataloging, and compliance with DoD metadata policies.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills for structuring research inquiries.
- Ability to develop tagging and classification schemes and ensure seamless integration of research products into structured dashboards.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) (Preferred, Not Required)
- DAMA Certified Data Governance Professional (DGSP) (Preferred, Not Required)
- ESRI Geospatial Data Management Certification (Preferred, Not Required)
Clearance Requirement
No clearance required for off-site duty location, or the ability to obtain and maintain the required clearance as specified by the program.
