About the role

Weekend and fill-in talent needed for iHeart Country's WMZQ in Washington DC. This role involves creating, producing, and announcing topics on the radio, including music, entertainment, news, weather, sports, and traffic. You’ll specialize in country music and engage with the audience through live broadcasts, interviews, and promotional events.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver newscasts, announce radio playlists, and provide weather, traffic, and sports updates.
  • Comment on music and other topics of interest to the audience, including interviews with musical personalities and listeners.
  • Write, review, and edit news copy, introductions, public service announcements, commercials, pre-recorded reports, and contests.
  • Participate in promotional events and operate studio control boards for live and remote programming.
  • Sell advertising space to advertisers (if required).
  • Regulate program timing, operate syndicated programming, and play commercials.
  • Monitor technical quality and accuracy of on-air programming from the master control room.
  • Protect the station’s license by censoring live programs and deleting impermissible content.
  • Handle emergency inserts such as news updates, breaking stories, and alert system tests.
  • Check studio equipment for proper functioning and report technical malfunctions.

Requirements

  • Socially informed and perceptive, with up-to-date knowledge of local and national trends.
  • Pleasant, charismatic, and well-controlled voice with excellent pronunciation.
  • Strong communication skills for conducting interviews and making guests feel comfortable.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with proficiency in grammar.
  • Proficient in media production, broadcast systems, Microsoft Office, and social networking.
  • Selling skills may be required.
  • Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish) may be required.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years’ experience as an announcer in a smaller market or college radio station.
  • 4-year college degree, preferably in Communications or Broadcast Journalism.

Pay

$24.80 - $31.00 per hour. Salary determined by relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and market alignment.

Schedule

Part time.
