Responsibilities
- Provides shift coverage and case management of clients residing in the sub-acute detox unit.
- Supports medical staff in the monitoring of patient care.
- Completes admissions screening and intakes pursuant to Physician’s Standing Orders and Withdrawal Management Policies and Procedures.
- Develops treatment referrals and conducts discharge planning.
- Conducts routine checks including safety checks and observes and reports withdrawal symptoms and changes in behavior to medical staff.
- Safeguards the environment and implements agency policies and procedures.
- Maintains client’s vitals per Physician’s Standing Orders and completes charting requirements.
- Assists with coverage in other departments or units when staffing levels are low.
- Supports and implements agency policies and procedures.
- Monitors patients through the detoxification process to ensure safety and compliance with program rules.
- De-escalates conflicts and responds to crisis situations using approved interventions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledgeable about chemical physiology (completed drug physiology class at an accredited college or university).
- Working understanding of the detoxification process and the signs and symptoms that warrant transfer to a medically supervised detox center.
- Current CPR/1st Aid certification.
- Current unencumbered driver license and proof of current car insurance.
- Understand the forms, stages, and manifestations of addictive behavior.
- Able to write detailed progress notes.
- Able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Great attendance.
- Able to work well with others.
Supervisory Controls
Incumbent is under the direct supervision of the Withdrawal Management Supervisor.
Guidelines
- WM Aides must meet the requirements delineated in WAC 246-341, non-licensed staff and SUDP’s must complete a minimum of forty hours of documented training before assignment of patient care duties.
- The training must include: substance use dependency, HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B education, TB prevention and control and Detox screening, admission, and signs of trauma.
- Must have current CPR and First Aid training and certification.
Complexity
Under supervision, the incumbent counsels clients who differ widely in age and socio-economic status and who may possess a variety of chronic and serious social, behavioral, physical, and psychological problems and who are intoxicated and experiencing withdrawal from chemicals.

Physical Demands
- Sit, speak, hear, use hands and fingers to manipulate writing utensils and keys on a keyboard.
- Stand, walk, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or move a maximum of 20 lbs.
- Occasional heavy lifting may be required.
Working Environments
- Most working hours are spent indoors in offices or meeting rooms.
- Visits to community agencies and participation in staff retreats/staff development activities may be required.
Salary
$20.85 - 23.00/hr DOE
