Temporary full-time position (37.5 hours per week) within the Infrastructure and Development division.

About the Role

Patrol the County Road network on weekends, documenting maintenance needs and dispatching County resources (manpower, equipment, and material) to address winter storm activity.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol the County Road network on weekends to ensure compliance with the Minimum Maintenance Standards as accepted by County Council and outlined in Regulation 55 of the Municipal Act.
  • Direct County resources (manpower, equipment, material) in winter storm response according to the County’s Salt Management Plan and Storm Response Guidelines.
  • Call out County forces based on weather conditions and notify local municipalities of road conditions as required.
  • Receive and respond to public and police complaints, suggesting corrective action or explaining County policies as needed.
  • Log and report road conditions and accidents on County Roads.
  • Adhere to the County’s Health & Safety policy and the Occupational Health and Safety Act, ensuring appropriate safety and risk management practices.
  • Suggest operational improvements for winter control operations.
  • Operate County equipment (e.g., "All Inclusive Snow Plough Equipment," tractor backhoe, front-end loader) in a backup capacity to support winter operations.
  • Maintain working knowledge of municipal winter control methods, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Stay up-to-date on relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies, and Procedures.
  • Meet the physical demands of the role as outlined in the position’s Physical Demands Analysis.

Requirements

  • Secondary school graduation diploma or equivalent experience, with completion of the AORS municipal road maintenance course.
  • Current valid Ontario Driver’s License, minimum Class DZ.
  • Minimum of three years of public works experience relevant to the position.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Pay

$27.66 - $33.22 per hour.
