Winter Nurse Externship

Find your calling at Mercy! The Nurse Extern role is designed for nursing students enrolled in an approved program who participate in clinical work under RN supervision. Responsibilities include: assisting in patient care, performing clinical procedures within scope, and supporting the healthcare team to promote patient wellness. Key duties: rotating through various units, gaining hands-on experience, and developing clinical skills such as IV therapy, Foley care, NG tube care, specimen collection, and assessments. Qualifications: completion of at least two semesters of nursing coursework, including clinicals; enrollment in an accredited nursing program; BLS certification; physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, and perform tasks requiring reaching, bending, and squatting. This externship offers a paid, immersive experience to deepen understanding of nursing roles, build confidence, and enhance clinical skills in a supportive environment.
