Windows Server Build & Automation Engineer
Location: Plano, TX (onsite 3 days per week) – 18-month contract with likely conversion to full-time employment. Must work on direct W2 (no C2C).
About the role
The Windows Server Build & Automation Engineer is responsible for developing a next-generation, highly automated server-build environment, leveraging HashiCorp Packer and CI/CD pipelines to automate image creation and deployment. This senior role requires deep expertise in Windows Server OS components, Windows server automation, Ansible-driven configuration management, and extensive PowerShell development, along with strong proficiency in GIT, JSON-based web services, and modern DevOps tooling such as JIRA and agile delivery frameworks. The engineer will work independently and in distributed teams to gather requirements, design and test new service offerings, document solutions, and transition them to operational support.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a highly automated Windows Server build environment using HashiCorp Packer and CI/CD pipelines.
- Automate image creation and deployment processes.
- Implement Ansible-driven configuration management.
- Design, develop, and maintain advanced PowerShell scripts for automation.
- Support and enhance Jenkins pipelines.
- Collaborate with distributed teams to gather requirements and design new service offerings.
- Document solutions and transition them to operational support.
- Support VMware infrastructure.
- Manage Windows patching, server lifecycle, and operating systems engineering.
- Work within Agile and DevOps environments.
Requirements
- 5+ years of Windows Server engineering experience.
- Strong expertise with Windows Server technologies, including current enterprise versions.
- Advanced PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
- Experience building images with Packer.
- Experience developing and supporting Jenkins pipelines.
- Familiarity with GitHub and/or Bitbucket.
- Experience supporting VMware infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of Windows patching, server lifecycle management, and operating systems engineering.
- Experience working within Agile and DevOps environments.
Pay
$70.24/hour.
