Winder-Weekend

Brief Description

This position is responsible for winding simple to moderate coils used in Sunbelt-Solomon Solution’s transformers according to winding specifications produced by the Engineering Department. This is a weekend shift position Friday-Sunday 5:00am-5:30pm, with a guaranteed 40 hours pay.

• Select type and size of wire specified for primary and secondary windings of coil to be wound.
• Creates appropriate form and loads form onto winding machine.
• Threads end of wire from reel through tension device, guides, and spreader, bends wire ends to form lead and attaches lead to coil source.
• Starts machine and manually feeds wire over coil form to obtain even and uniform winding and shape of coil.
• Makes sure machine controls are set to adjust tension on wire and counter is correct.
• Makes sure machine stops at specified number of turns.
• Wraps insulation between layers and around wound coil or inserts ducts between turns to form cooling ducts as specified on winding design.
• Cuts wire to form leads.
• Forms coils with rubber or plastic mallet to maintain shape during winding.
• Strips insulation from end of lead wires, threads lead wires through insulating sleeves or slides sleeves over leads and solders lead wires to terminals as determined in winding spec.
• Tests coils for winding continuity as required.

  Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing/technical environment.
  • Experience running automated machines such as CNC machining tools/automated production equipment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos as well as write.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to read and use a tape measure.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
