About the Role

Willow Tree Residence is a 130-unit congregate care supportive housing program located in East Midtown Manhattan. The facility is co-located with a women’s shelter (first 6 floors of a 21-story building) and includes a street-facing Article 28 clinic on the first floor dedicated to providing primary and behavioral health care services. Willow Tree provides 79 permanent, supportive housing units for chronically homeless single adults and/or adult families with a serious mental illness (SMI), a substance use disorder (SUD), or co-occurring SMI and SUD. Candidates are referred through the Department of Homeless Services (DHS), though the facility is funded by DOHMH. The remaining 51 units are “fair market” and reserved for low-income tenants from the local community.

Responsibilities

  • Help establish and maintain a safe and secure environment, including keeping the building lobby clear and unobstructed.
  • Conduct safety patrols throughout the facility and document findings.
  • Monitor CCTV system and security cameras.
  • Observe tenant(s) and visitor(s) behavior, reporting any unusual behavior to appropriate personnel.
  • Greet visitors and guests, announce/direct/escort them to the appropriate location, and maintain a visitor/guest log.
  • Maintain accurate log entries and write Incident Reports when necessary.
  • Use a multi-line telephone and intercom system.
  • Act as Fire Guard.
  • Provide crisis intervention in emergencies and contact appropriate personnel.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or senior staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with mentally ill and substance-abusing populations.
  • Must obtain Fire Guard Certification (F-01) within 90 days of employment and keep it active while in this position.
  • Ability to work multiple/varied shifts, as the building operates 24/7.

Physical Activities

  • Walk between the fourteen floors of the facility to meet client needs.
  • Walk the exterior of the facility to ensure proper appearance.
  • Stand to talk to staff and/or clients and sit for extended periods at the computer.
  • Bend, reach, or squat to retrieve records from files.

Preferred Skills

  • Team Building: Ability to develop and foster team spirit, enabling staff to overcome challenges in serving a special client population.
  • Communication: Excellent oral, writing, and listening skills.
  • Organizational: Ability to work well in a highly pressurized, deadline-driven environment while meeting short- and long-term program mandates.
  • Interpersonal: Ability to interface with clients and all levels of staff.
  • Computer: Knowledge of case management software, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and experience with work order systems.

Pay

$36,545 per year ($20.079 per hour).
