Location: Collierville, TN – Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Shelby County (Fisheries Division). One full-time, on-site position.

About the role

Under general supervision, performs wildlife conservation work of average difficulty. This is the advanced working/lead class in the Wildlife Technician sub-series. Employees either (1) lead Wildlife Technician 1’s in wildlife conservation and forestry work in specialty areas such as state lake operation and maintenance, fish attractor construction and fish data collection, wildlife area operation and maintenance, or hatchery operation and maintenance; or (2) perform advanced-level conservation work conducting wildlife surveys, habitat management implementation, maintaining records, or guiding visitors at Agency facilities.

Responsibilities

• Assume supervisory role within the assigned work unit in the absence of the assigned Supervisor or Manager.
• Provide on-the-job training for newly hired personnel and volunteers, including general workplace safety precautions.
• Determine appropriate conditions and quantities for use of hazardous materials.
• Conduct or assist with calibration of agency equipment such as electronic scales, agricultural sprayers, flow meters, water quality meters, thermal imagers, and cameras.
• Operate farm tractors, heavy equipment, pump equipment, and implements used to maintain habitat and manipulation.
• Perform general maintenance and repair service of agency equipment including mechanical motors, trailers, ATVs, and farm implements.
• Follow operational guidelines for conducting forestry/wildlife surveys, sampling, and nuisance control.
• Coordinate forest/wildlife research and management programs; trap, tag, band, inventory, or transplant wildlife for research or management purposes.
• Coordinate, participate in, and schedule use of agency personnel for events, programs, and activities with appropriate supervisor(s).

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three years of full-time wildlife conservation, forestry, farming, or closely related work experience.
• Qualifying coursework at an accredited college or university may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Five or more years of working experience as a Wildlife Technician 1 with TWRA may substitute for the above requirements.
• Valid driver’s license; some positions may require a current CDL license.
• For the past five years, the candidate’s driver record must not include: DUI, reckless driving, license suspension for moving violations, or more than four moving violations.

Monthly: $3,800.00 – $5,902.00
