Wildlife Area Coordinator - Multiple Positions

Multiple Wildlife Area Coordinator positions are available within the Division of Wildlife at the following locations:

  • Wildlife District Two – Magee Marsh: 13229 West State Route 2, Oak Harbor, Ohio 43449 (Ottawa County) – 1 position
  • Wildlife District Three – Berlin Lake: 1806 Bonner Rd, Deerfield, OH 44411 (Portage County) – 1 position

Responsibilities

  • Plans and coordinates wildlife programs and acts as lead worker (provides work direction and training)
  • Performs a variety of habitat management functions, including:
    • Vegetation control and herbicide application
    • Controlled burns and selective cuttings
    • Plowing, disking, and planting food patches
    • Checking or building nesting structures
    • Assisting with cover-mapping of the area
    • Trapping, banding, and releasing wildlife for research surveys
    • Conducting hunter bag checks and collecting deer age data
  • Monitors and participates in maintenance and repair of buildings, automotive equipment, power tools, and farming implements
  • Answers public inquiries and distributes general information
  • Obtains and maintains a Pesticide Applicator License within 1 year of hire
  • Obtains and maintains a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsement within 6 months of hire to operate truck/trailer combinations

Requirements

  • 24 months of experience in wildlife habitat and conservation activities, including:
    • Wildlife habitat evaluation
    • Preparation and implementation of wildlife plans
    • Capturing, tagging, and collecting data from wildlife species
    • Assisting with wildlife research activities
    • Operation of associated equipment
  • Valid driver’s license
  • OR completion of an undergraduate core program in wildlife management or a related field of study and a valid driver’s license
  • OR equivalent of the minimum class qualifications for employment noted above

Training and Development

  • Must obtain a Pesticide Applicator License (issued by the Department of Agriculture) within 1 year of hire
  • Must obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to operate motorized equipment of size and type regulated by Section 4506 of the Ohio Revised Code within 6 months of hire

  • Exposure to inclement weather, pesticides, and herbicides

Pay

Starting hourly pay of $23.65 with multiple pay increases over the first 5.5 years of service, reaching $28.76 per hour. Cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) may also apply. Longevity pay supplements begin after five years of state service.

Schedule

Full-time, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (subject to change).
