About the role
This position serves as the Utility Accounts & Payroll Coordinator, performing a variety of technical and complex accounting duties related to the Town’s utility billing, accounts receivable, and payroll functions.
Responsibilities
- Processes, verifies, and maintains documentation related to utility billing, accounts receivable, and payroll activities.
- Prepares and posts journal entries; reconciles accounts; prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Coordinates and processes bi-weekly payroll for all Town employees, including calculating wages, deductions, and benefits.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to payroll, taxes, and utility billing.
- Assists with budget preparation, audits, and year-end closing processes.
- Responds to inquiries from employees, vendors, and the public regarding payroll, utility billing, and accounts receivable matters.
- Maintains accurate records and files for all financial transactions.
- Utilizes financial software systems to input, track, and report financial data.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, payroll, or utility billing.
- Experience with municipal finance or government accounting is highly desirable.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and experience with financial software systems.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in processing financial data.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
