Utility & Railroad Coordinator
About the role
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) seeks a coordinator to provide input and direction to project managers regarding utility and railroad coordination needs. This role involves arranging meetings, reviewing plans, and resolving issues related to utility and railroad crossings.
Responsibilities
- Provide input to project managers on utility and railroad coordination needs and their impact on schedules.
- Arrange meetings or phone calls with designers, consultants, utility and railroad officials, and local entities to discuss project details.
- Participate in diagnostic team reviews to identify utility relocation and railroad crossing treatments.
- Review highway plans and address potential conflicts with utility and railroad crossings.
- Advise project managers and consultants on current processes and applicable federal and state statutes.
- Attend stakeholder visits, site visits, and construction inspections.
- Respond to construction issues involving utilities and railroads promptly to ensure project timelines.
- Ensure timely delivery of coordination documents and assist with agreement negotiations.
- Track project progress and assist with tasks as needed to ensure project completion.
Requirements
- Specialized knowledge in program subject matter, gained through experience and/or education.
- Extensive knowledge of pertinent rules and regulations.
- Ability to develop and implement new principles and policies.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to analyze, prepare, and disseminate program reports.
- Working knowledge of accounting and budget principles.
- Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
- Ability to provide feedback, guidance, and coaching to employees.
- Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications
- At least 7+ years of experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role.

Pay
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.
Schedule
This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
