About the Role
This Operations Manager role oversees a 1.8M Sq Ft automated distribution center for a $1B company, reporting directly to the General Manager. The position manages inbound and outbound departments, including Automation, Non-automation, Value-Added Services (VAS), Pick & Pack, and E-Commerce Operations. The Operations Manager ensures adherence to company policies, fosters a culture of excellence and accountability, and drives continuous improvement in productivity and efficiency. This role serves as a liaison between operations teams and upper management to align cross-functional teams and support strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities
- Direct Daily Operations: Oversee receiving, warehousing, picking, packing, and shipping for over 200 team members. Develop and implement operational procedures to streamline workflows, maximize productivity, and meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Provide daily coaching and guidance to Area Managers, Supervisors, and hourly employees.
- Inventory Management and Quality Control: Collaborate with the Inventory Control Manager to maintain inventory accuracy, optimize stock availability, and minimize excess inventory. Implement quality control processes, prioritize trailer unloads, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Staff Supervision: Define and track KPIs for productivity, accuracy, and efficiency. Lead a team of Area Managers, Supervisors, and associates, providing training, coaching, and performance oversight. Monitor departmental expenses, including overtime, to meet budgetary guidelines.
- Communication and Collaborative Leadership: Work with cross-functional teams (Engineering, HR, Inventory Control, Account Support, Customer Service) to optimize operational processes. Communicate operational updates, challenges, and opportunities to upper management.
- Training and Development: Provide training on automated equipment and systems, facilitate workshops, and ensure adherence to safety programs. Foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
- Continuing Education and Professional Affiliations: Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices. Pursue certifications such as Certified Automation Professional (CAP), Warehouse Management Certification (WMC), Lean Six Sigma, or Project Management Professional (PMP). Maintain active membership in industry associations like MHI, WERC, or RIA.
Requirements
- Education:
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field, or a minimum of 5 years of experience in 3rd Party Logistics or warehouse.
- Preferred: Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or related field. Certification in Logistics or Supply Chain Management. Additional training in data analytics, lean management, process optimization, or project management.
- Experience:
- Required: At least 3 years in an Operations Manager role or 5 years of supervisory experience. Proven leadership skills in employee engagement, talent development, conflict resolution, and team building. Experience managing both exempt and non-exempt hourly staff. Ability to meet or exceed strategic performance goals.
- Preferred: Previous supervisory experience in an automated distribution center. Experience with advanced data analysis tools and software.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to perform physical activities such as walking, bending, and lifting in a fast-paced environment.
