Position Summary
The Wellness Specialist is responsible for designing and leading safe, effective, and engaging group fitness classes tailored to senior residents in independent living, assisted living, and memory care settings. This role partners closely with the Life Enrichment team to support holistic wellness programming.
Responsibilities
- Lead group fitness classes such as strength training, balance, flexibility, stretching, chair exercise, and low-impact cardio
- Develop fitness programming appropriate for varying ability levels
- Manage the community fitness center, including equipment oversight, safety monitoring, and resident instruction on proper exercise technique and machine use
- Ensure resident safety by modifying exercises as needed
- Conduct basic wellness assessments when appropriate
- Encourage participation and build positive relationships with residents
- Support community wellness events and special programming
- Maintain accurate attendance and participation records
- Uphold all safety standards and emergency response protocols
Physical Requirements
- Ability to demonstrate exercises and proper form
- Ability to stand, bend, lift light fitness equipment, and move throughout the community
- Ability to assist residents safely when needed
Qualifications
- Kinesiology certification required
- Experience leading fitness classes for older adults strongly preferred
- CPR / First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
- Strong communication and motivational skills
- Passion for working with seniors
- Ability to adapt programming to meet individual needs
