About the Role

Under the supervision of the Director or designee, the Wellness Coach is a state-certified position established by California’s Department of Health Access and Information as part of the Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative. The role of the Wellness Coach is to offer prevention and early intervention services that support the behavioral health and well-being of children and youth. This includes skills training, psychoeducation, system navigation, crisis de-escalation, safety planning, coping skills, and motivational interviewing. Wellness Coaches engage and support children and youth in cultural, linguistic, and age-appropriate services, with the ability to refer and link to higher levels of care, as needed. Behavioral health and related services performed may include wellness promotion and education, screening, care coordination, individual and group support, and crisis referral.

Responsibilities

• Provide prevention and early intervention services supporting behavioral health and well-being of children and youth
• Conduct skills training, psychoeducation, and system navigation
• Perform crisis de-escalation and safety planning
• Teach coping skills and use motivational interviewing techniques
• Engage and support children and youth in cultural, linguistic, and age-appropriate services
• Refer and link to higher levels of care as needed
• Deliver wellness promotion, education, screening, and care coordination
• Provide individual and group support, and crisis referral

Requirements

• Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Certification as Wellness Coach I or II from the California Department of Health Access and Information
• TB test clearance
• Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
• Valid California Driver’s License and evidence of insurability if required to operate a vehicle
• Experience providing counseling and crisis intervention to children, adolescents, and their families preferred
• Experience working with school systems preferred

10% pay differential for individuals who have Wellness Coach II Certification through the California Department of Health Access and Information.

Pay

Monthly salary range: $4,668.42 - $6,076.08. Initial salary placement is on the first step of the range.

Schedule

• 8 hours per day, 5 days per week
• 215 days per year (10 months per year)
