Wellin Museum Safety Officer

About the role

Reporting to the Wellin Museum Safety Manager, this part-time/on-call position provides safety, security, and guest services in public and non-public areas during normal museum operating hours. Hours are limited to under 910 per year and may include evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Security and protection of museum property, exhibits, classrooms, and assets (30%).
• Conduct hourly rounds to ensure visitor and property safety, checking exhibitions, art storage rooms, mechanical rooms, stairwells, fire exits, fire extinguishers, and pull boxes. Document issues in a log book and advise the supervisor on duty of any concerns (15%).
• Building security, door security, opening and closing of public and non-public areas, and building rounds (10%).
• Perform identification checks and clearance of guests entering the museum (5%).
• Ensure the safety of all persons on museum property (10%).
• Maintain records reflecting the physical condition of museum property as it applies to safety and security issues (10%).
• Respond to emergency calls and perform CPR or First Aid in emergency situations (2%).
• Act as an Evacuation Monitor during emergency situations (2%).
• Escort approved visitors through non-public areas and monitor individuals working in art storage rooms (5%).
• Inspect parcels (3%).
• Maintain a daily log and draft incident reports as needed (5%).
• Perform other duties as assigned (3%).

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have or be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
• Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a New York State Security Guard License.

Physical Demands

Employees in this position are frequently required to:

• Stand or sit for up to 6 hours per shift, depending on post requirement.
• Patrol the floor and Exhibition Gallery.
• Conduct hourly building sweeps.
• Vocally communicate with employees and members of the public.
• Utilize stairways during emergency response situations when the elevator is disabled.
• Move an individual to safety with the assistance of another officer.
• Assist individual(s) with mobility impairments to safety with the assistance of another officer.

Pay

$17.50 per hour.
