Job Purpose
Instruct Welding Technology related courses for KCKCC at any assigned location. This is a POOL position. Application materials for this adjunct position accepted on an ongoing basis due to increasing demand for courses in this subject area.Position Description
- Instruct students using learner-centered pedagogy.
- Teach courses in all major welding and cutting processes as well as safety and blueprint reading.
- Maintain and troubleshoot equipment as needed.
- Plan lessons and activities that will enable students to master skills and complete course objectives.
- Work with other faculty to ensure quality environment for students.
- Maintain student records in accordance with state and federal laws.
- Follow appropriate safety practices as they pertain to welding industry.
- Participate in professional development to continually improve personal skills and the Welding Technology Program.
- Aid with welding community outreach and Advisory Committee recruitment and support.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of various Welding processes equipment and operation.
- Knowledge of Shop equipment.
- Knowledge of transformer and inverter type welding power sources.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships and establish credibility with all levels of students, faculty, and staff in the organization and with community partners.
- Ability to troubleshoot welding equipment for various processes.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Ability to organize and explain content using methods that are appropriate to students with differing abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experience.
- Use teaching methods that emphasize application, cooperation, and collaboration and engage students actively in their studies, encouraging them to become independent learners with higher order thinking skills.
Position Qualifications and/or Education
- College Certificate in Welding or closely related field.
- Minimum Five (5) years’ experience in Welding and Fabrication.
- Knowledge of SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, OFC, PAC, CAC-A, Oxy-Fuel welding/brazing, and/or casting repair processes.
- Preferred: American Welding Society Certified Welding Educator and/or Certified Welding Inspector or ability to obtain those certifications.
- Associates degree or higher in a closely related field.
- Education or training experience.
- Teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college.
- Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard.
- Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.
