About the role

Meyer Utility Structures (MUS) is seeking a Plant Welding Technician to join their team at the Clinton, IL utility pole manufacturing plant. This position provides welding and technical support including troubleshooting, process improvement, and procedure conformance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide welding support to production welders, supervisors, and other plant personnel
  • Troubleshoot welding technique and routine equipment issues
  • Perform routine tasks such as maintaining welder continuity, welding equipment calibration, and flux oven logs
  • Evaluate, propose, and implement welding process improvements to increase efficiency and quality
  • Perform welding training on the shop floor and in a classroom setting as required
  • Absorb oversight of the daily pole school operations
  • Maintain welder candidate training, testing, and qualification records
  • Conduct hands-on welder candidate training for FCAW, SAW, SMAW, plasma/oxyfuel cutting, and air-carbon-arc gouging processes
  • Perform classroom training on welding safety, welding and cutting processes, visual weld acceptance criteria, welding symbols, drawings, etc.
  • Provide additional training (On-the-Job Training) to production welders as required
  • Absorb participation in welding improvement projects/other duties as required

Requirements

  • Must be able to work first shift
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and/or AWS Certified Welding Educator (CWE) preferred
  • 3 - 5 years FCAW, SAW, and SMAW welding experience
  • Proficient using various weld inspection tools such as amp/volt/wire feed/gas flow meters, fillet weld gages, undercut gages, etc.
  • Welding related associate degree preferred
  • Able to read and comprehend welding symbols, welding procedure specifications, work instructions, drawings, bill of materials, etc.
  • Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding procedure specification
  • Working knowledge of weld filler materials and base materials
  • Possess written and oral communication skills

  • Regular and predictable attendance, a great attitude, and an ability to work well with a team towards achieving a common goal

  • Strong hands-on welding skills
  • Visual weld inspection experience
  • Experience using welding procedure specifications

$55,000 to $70,500 MUS276
