About the Role

The Welding Instructor at Horizons Youth Services' Milwaukee Job Corps Center plays a key role in delivering innovative, quality educational and job training programs. This position is ideal for an experienced welding professional passionate about their trade and working with young people to prepare them for today’s competitive job market.

Responsibilities

• Deliver instruction to students using approved curriculum and developed lesson plans, ensuring a safe, engaging, and multifaceted approach tailored to individual learning styles, abilities, and career goals.
• Complete Career Technical Skills Training (CTST) projects, if assigned.
• Monitor student attendance and performance to ensure program goals are met or exceeded.
• Collaborate with center staff (counselors, academic instructors, residential staff) to promote student retention, attendance, positive behavior, program completion, and placement using a holistic approach.
• Participate in monthly curriculum committee meetings to incorporate applied academics and contextual learning, including Evening Weekend Studies (EWS).
• Record student progress, establish goals for each 60-day Evaluation of Student Progress (ESP) cycle, and update the eTAR weekly.
• Collaborate with the Community Engagement Committee and local employers to maintain active Workforce Council members, develop job opportunities for Work-Based Learning (WBL), and ensure student placement.
• Provide training and remedial support to help students achieve industry certifications, prerequisites, and examination requirements, focusing on readiness for further education, advanced training, military enlistment, or full-time employment.
• Comply with all Department of Labor (DOL) guidelines, Job Corps notices, and center/company policies, including mandatory training.
• Model and mentor appropriate Career Success Standards, support students’ career development goals, and participate in student mentor and club activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Multiple years of experience in welding or the field being taught.
• Education training preferred.
• Valid state driver’s license.
• Certified, licensed, or accredited in the state where the center is located, or accredited by a professional trade organization to enable students to earn a primary industry credential in welding.
• For NTC, instructors must be certified by a union, trade organization, or national trade certifying organization.
